Everyone Around Me is NutsA Chapter by BrooklynI wake up again and daylight shines
threw my window. I have a brief flash back of last night and then hit snooze on
my alarm clock. Then I realize that it never went off and look at the time. Crap. Crap, crap, crap, crap. Crap. It’s nine AM and I have missed at
least half of second period. I rush to my closet and pull on something random.
I’m going to be in huge trouble. “Mom! I need a ride to school!” I
yell as I try to get on my skinny jeans. She opens the door without
knocking. “No you don’t.” I stare at her in confusion.
“Because I called in sick for you. We’re spending the day shopping.” She
continues. “Why?” I ask slowly. I’m thrilled
about shopping. I mean, it’s much better than PreCelc. But I know that there is
a reason behind this. “Because you are gonna need
something to wear on the date!” I have decided to go with it for
the moment. I mean, there is no reason that I couldn’t choose no after
shopping. My mother is paying okay? This doesn’t happen often. “OOOOH! Try this on!” My mother
squeals handing me a black, strapless, tight fit tank top with small sliver
stars. Then she grabs a pair of whit skinny jeans in my size and throws them at
me. “Don’t mind if I do,” I say as I
strut toward the changing room. “I’ll keep looking. Call me when
you have it on, I want to see.” My mom replies, still searching the racks. I pull the outfit on and hit my
mom’s sped dial. “ready,” I say and hang up. I admire myself in the mirror. I’m
not the prettiest but the clothes do look good. I walk out of the changing room
stall and my mom is already there, arms full of clothes. “Stunning,” she says.
“My favorite so far.” Then she hands me the clothes that
she wants me to try on and I hand her the ones that are definite No’s We leave the mall with five new
outfits that we couldn’t decide between. “Well, we don’t know where you’re
going yet. We have to be prepared.” She reasons as we exit through the
automatic doors. I just smile. We bought the star tank top and white
jeans along with a black jacket and silver flats. We also got an almost tan
strapless dress with small pink flowers and a sweetheart neckline with a lace
material over it. “I think you need a second
opinion…” My mom says taking my cellphone out of my bag and calls Drew. Quickly
she explains the situation and Drew promises to be right over. We pull into our drive way and
she’s already there, hands on her hips. “I can’t believe you never told me that
Harry asked you out!” She accuses. “You were in the same room as me
when it happened.” I remind her. She sputters indigently. “well you
didn’t tell me that he followed you to Uxbridge, either!” “It was last night!” “Excuses, excuses.” “I’ll leave you two girls at it
then,” my mom says walking past us and in to the house. “So are you going to help me?” I
ask, already knowing the answer. “If you insist…” She leads the way
in to the house and to my room. How come everyone around me is completely nuts?
