Louis was on the phone with Drew for two hours before he finally got Ari’s address. Apparently Drew fainted after all her screaming. Then we had to wait for her to wake up. She calmed down slightly once we started asking about Ari. Well, at least we couldn’t hear her hyperventilating into the phone anymore. I’m gonna take that as a good sign.

But we have her address now and I swear I’m the happiest person on this planet. If I get any happier I’m not gonna be on this planet much longer. My heart will explode from the pure happiness of it all. Sounds like a good time, right?

“Now we just have to convince Modest! that we need to make a pit-stop in Massachusetts.” Niall says. “That will be easy. Not.”

“We need to talk to Paul.” Louis states the obvious. We all nod our head in agreement. More dialing of the tele.

It takes more time to convince Paul then it did to get information out of Drew. The more we talked, it seemed, the more Paul thought it was a bad idea. “We don’t need you distracted by girls, Harry. We need you to be on task.”

Eventually we won him over, though.

“Boys,” I say hanging up, “we’re going to Massachusetts.” This was met by varying amounts of enthusiasm.

Four hours of driving later…

“I really am starving. Can we stop somewhere?” Niall asks.

“We’re almost there. Can’t you wait?”

“No. I’m starving.”

“So you’ve told us.” Louis rolls his eyes.

We give in and stop at a McDonalds. Niall smiles triumphantly at us. We walk in and get in line to order. Everyone stops to stare at us and then they all get out of line so that we can go in front of them. Why thank ye.

“Don’t you love fans?” Liam asks as Niall orders a BigMac and large fries. How he stays that thin is a mystery to me.

We head back out to the van to see the driver outside with the van nowhere in sight, twisting his cap. “I have bad news boys.” Uh-oh.  “The van broke down. I had to call a toe-truck. It’s at the repair but its gonna take a while to get up and running again.”

I let out some colorful language that I’m glad my mum didn’t hear. “So we’re stuck here.”

“Until tomorrow when I pick up the van from the shop. There’s a hotel nearby if you guy would like to stay there for a while. Other than that, there’s not much around.”

I grumble impatiently. “This sucks!“ I yell, trying to resist the urge to punch the wall.

“Ya know…I’m starting to get jealous, Harry.” Louis fake-sniffles. “I thought we had something special. And now"“ sniffle, sniffle, “You traded it all away.” He covers his face with his hands and pretends to be sobbing. “I guess Larry Stylinson…  is no more.”

“I wish I could comfort you, mate, but if I have a chance to get the girl, I’m gonna take it.” Louis continues to fake cry and I smile, all seriousness is gone. “You deserve a fella who will love you the way you disserve, Lou. We can still be friends. You will always have a place in my heart, Louis.” It occurs to me that I have used those lines plenty of times before, but they weren’t jokes then. Huh. Weird.

Louis begins to sing, “Take your records, take your freedom

Take your memories, I don’t need ‘em

Take your space and take your reasons

But you’ll think of me

And take your cat and leave my sweater” We all laugh at that. Perfect Lou.

“‘Cause we have nothing left to weather

In fact I’ll feel a whole lot better

But you’ll think of me, you’ll think of me”

Lou? Country? I didn’t know he even knew who Keith Urban is. I mean, yeah, I know him…but Louis? That’s just odd. And to hear him sing it? Surprisingly good. Yeah, I know we’re pro singers and all…but country is something else entirely.

The best thing about Louis? He always manages to make you feel better. And when he can’t? Carrots for all!

I look down at the address that Louis had written on an orange sticky note. 193 West Hartford Ave. Uxbridge, MA. Yep, this is the right place.

I breathe in and out deeply in attempt to calm my growing nerves. Butterflies aren’t an apt analogy.  Let’s just say that I’m more than a little nervous. Like throw up nervous.

“Just do it already!” Zayn yells form where they are sitting in the now fixed van. I glare at him, gather my courage, and ring the doorbell.

I step back and wait for the door to swing open. The seconds seem to be hours and I prepare to ring it again when it is finally unlocked. At it is a guy about my age with the same raven black hair and piercing blue eyes as Ari.

“Can I help you?” he asks.

“Um, yeah, I’m looking for Ari Jackson.”

“She’s not home… And you are?” So she did live there.

“Harry Styles.”

“You mean from that band.”

“Yeah, One Direction. Are you her brother?”

“mhm” he nods. “She probably won’t be back for a while so you might not want to hang around. I can tell her that you dropped by, if you want.”

“Oh, okay. Thank you.” I wrote down my phone number and ask him to have her call me. I wave goodbye then turn and head back to the van where there are four other guys looking anxious.

That didn’t go as planned…

“Well…” Louis prompts, “How’d it go?”

“I met her brother.”

He laughs, “How did it go over when you said you wanted to date his sister? He must not be the protective type, ‘cause you’re still in one piece.”

“I’m not an idiot, I didn’t tell him. He didn’t even ask why I wanted to know if she was home.”
