rotten roses

rotten roses

A Poem by brokenwriter

not now, not never,
I`ll ask a reflection in the mirror,
is this the best I can do?
Is this enough?

and no, no, no, no
I won`t ask you
not now, not never,
is this beauty ever enough?

rotten roses come from the inside they say
but nobody ever closes their eyes
and nobody ever will see
so I will be the only one
who waters them so carefully
because they are mine
and my mind is always dreaming

I think, that`s why they like the rose - gardens better,
they`ll always like them better
because they hold beauty that you can touch
and feel
you simply
never have to see.

Surely to feel is to touch a memory; to make a memory is to have been touched? Perhaps.

'rotten roses come from the inside they say
but nobody ever closes their eyes
and nobody ever will see
so I will be the only one
who waters them so carefully
because they are mine
and my mind is always dreaming'

Back to the feeling rather than the alternative, perhaps?
