The Ant and The Bully

The Ant and The Bully

A Poem by Colleen C Dunphy
"

An exaggeration of frustration.

"

Here I am,

innocently running around my little patch of earth.

When here you come,

not so innocently to poke and prod me, watching me stumble over the earth.

Laughing at my misfortune.

You prove to me how small I am,

and how Big and scary the rest of the world is.

I feel the burn from your magnifying glass as you pick me apart.

Tear me down to the ground.

No way to hide from your glare.

Why do you loom over me?

Why do you analyze me so closely?

I'm just here-- trying to make you happy.

I carry so much on my little body.

But even I can only carry so much.

Squashed down by the weight.

Running around in circles.

The earth is so small.

You silently watch me, waiting for me to break.

Great metaphor!

I can relate on a slightly odd level because my small stature has meant I've been kicked about a lot in life. So I can sympathize with the ant metaphor!

You've got the anguish nailed and the straight in there approach leaves no words wasted.

Great piece!! Really did enjoy this one!

It feels like there is a great deal of anxiety in this poem, and I think that at one time or another many poeple can relate to the deep feelings you express in this poem.

With writers and poets emotion is one of the key defining characteristics. Ergo- we write what we know. And you, my dear, seem to have suffered some turbulence. I hope the day finds you well and happy, with the sun at your back, and a peace in your soul.

And remember- even a fire-ant can stop a person dead in thier tracks and make them think it through before coming near the hill... :-)

yes to see the tiniest of creatures having feelings is a wonderful insight. Nicely expressed and heart felt that no creature should be ignored. I was sent a read request by one of my friends I think because of a poem I wrote Breat swollen in pride, about a sparrow.
This is a good write, a sensative write.

Oh la la ! This was brilliant! I honestly felt the madness and anger while reading this.

"I feel the burn from your magnifying glass as you pick me apart." - such a great line

Well done! Thanks for sharing your sorrow with us. You did it in a creative way!

Well, damn! Terrifically written, leaving me feeling the frustration, oozing out of absolutely every line. Great analogy, by the way! I guess the Bully would be the Grasshopper, huh? haha

Wonderful job of venting and, thank you, for sharing this charming piece of writing.

Oh my dear friend I feel you on this one... it seems there are some out their that pray on you when you are at your most vulnerable to get their ego boost... and when it is someone close like family or supposed friend then that shoe can't come down on you fast enough... well I will say this if your down I would be there to give you a safe ant farm with plenty of morsels of food to eat.
