CarnivalA Poem by Colleen C DunphyI wrote this last night, but in the morning light I was ready to buy my tickets to get back in.The rollercoaster ride is over. I'm getting off at the bottom. Feeling dizzy and nauseated. The world spinning so fast around me. I'm not sure if the ride was worth it. Not sure if it was all that fun. I just need to sit down for a while. Maybe I'm too old for this kind of thing. The ups and downs, the loop-de-loop. It's all too much for my heart. I'm not ready to get back in line. I don't think I'll ever want to ride it again. How many times do you have to go on before you just stay off? Maybe I should try something safer, like a carousel. The ride is a little gentler, you don't have to get so far off the ground. Play it safe for a while. Or maybe, Leave this carnival altogether. You can't fall off if you never get back on, right?
