The Words You Speak

The Words You Speak

A Poem by Colleen C Dunphy
"

Inspired by a converstaion this morning.

"

The words you speak mean nothing

When your body says the opposite.

The words you speak mean nothing

When they've just become a habit.

The words you speak mean nothing

When your face tells a different story.

The words you speak mean nothing

When all thats left is pain.

The words you speak mean nothing

When you say them to everyone.

The words you speak mean nothing

When you mean nothing by them.

The words you speak mean nothing

When my ears are numb from hearing them.

The words you speak mean nothing

When they are just a mumbled montra.

The words you speak mean nothing

But your body speaks volumes.

The words you spoke meant nothing

But my leaving left you speechless,

the silence rang around us.

The words you speak mean nothing
When you say them to everyone.

How can we tell the truth from the lies? What isn't sincere and what is? Always forced to read between the lines. For many reasons I love this poem. I have seen that body language before.

I'm not usually a big fan of lines repeating throughout a piece; but it fits here and certainly works to give power to the entire write. I loved the ending here; you leave the reader speechless as well with that slap! at the end!
