White Orchids

White Orchids

A Poem by Marlena Newcombe

Beautiful white orchids
A symbol of purity
What I hope will bring us a fresh start
Something to nourish and grow like the relationship we are rebuilding

So beautiful and fresh
Shining as the sunlight beams into the open curtained window
I look at them in awe
Wanting to cherish the magic of the worlds creations
A radiant gift you have given me
More so than just the flowers
Your love, my wonderstruck

Beautiful white orchids
Wilting now, just like we are
I’m slowly killing them and our love
How do I save them? How do I save us? So withered and sad
Clinging to any hope of revival
I look at them with sorrow
I never meant to be so cruel
Two beautiful gifts you have given me
I failed to cherish them
Your love, my white orchids

Rich with striking symbolism and contrast. There is an undeniable brevity to love. It may last for some a bit longer, but in comparison to the scheme of the universe it is brief. At it peaks its beauty is resonate in its perfection and youthful nature. But in age it wilts and requires more to sustain. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem with us.
