Chapter Three: A Check-Up?A Chapter by Shawna Grace
"Does anybody want a sandwich?" Mom asked sweetly. It was just a
cover-up. Everything seemed to be covered up around our house now.
"Yeah, I want one but where's dad? I need to ask him something," Alex commented. Mom frowned slightly. "At the hospital. Why?" Mom replied. The hospital? Who was at the.... "Where's Tibby?" I demanded. Mom was quiet for a few minutes, and I repeated myself. "At the hospital." Alex and I exchanged a poor-little-Tibby glance. We often had those, now. Mom handed Alex a plate with his favorite, a ham sandwich. "I'm....not hungry," Alex commented. "Please, guys. Don't make this a big deal. Tibby doesn't seem to even care about it," Mom offered. It made me want to scream at her "Do you know she cries at night?! Do you know she's scared?! Do you know....do you know ANYTHING about your own daughter?!" Trying to shrug off my anger I pleaded, "Can you take me there? To the hospital? I want to see her." Mom nodded. "Get in the car," She commanded us. Alex and I walked out to Mom's red car. The ride there was too slow. It seemed to take hours. "Why is she there?" Alex asked. I looked up from playing with my fingers, which I did when I was nervous. Nobody had talked the whole time we where in the car. Mom glanced back at him. "They just need to check up on her. No big deal," Mom replied. It was a big deal if Tibby was in the hospital! "Everything seems to be good," A doctor shorter than me said, scribbling something probably unreadable on his clip-board. If everything was so good, why was Tibby sitting in a colorless room, with an IV and thin white sheets over her? © 2010 Shawna Grace |
