the quiet summer nights

along the East shore

letting loose

and letting go

just to show

who loved who more

breathing in deeply

you promised forever

never-ending

you swore

I told you to prove it

you just asked "what for?"

you dropped me off at the old house on the corner

and I saw your face long after I shut the door

I lived for those days

that I felt so secure

young, ignorant, and poor

but in love and so sure

that was enough

yet we started to unfold
