On GraduatingA Poem by C.S. ConverseThoughts I had and wrote down the day of my first college graduation. The stage seems too far away When that first “good morning” rings Out like a drum, giving marching Orders for your years. They Always said this was the moment One became an adult, but I Find my mind astray, Rambling, wandering, roaming, Wishing for the simplicity of Imagining this. I wish I could stay Where the two roads diverge Forever, but no such luck. The stage isn’t far away As I listen to cliche Speeches about our futures. I Wonder what I do now. Life’s Not a game to be won, is it? Weekdays Will be dull as a rock now that I’ve done my time, honorably discharged, Free from childhood and school days. Shaking hands, I know this is all for show, It’s not really me. I am not a certificate, and The stage seems so far away. © 2017 C.S. Converse |
