I Wish

I wrote this 10 years ago when I lost my only brother. It seems a bit juvenile to me but, nonetheless, the feelings are still and will always be true.

I wish you were with me,

I wish you were here.

I wish for your laughter,

or even a tear.

 

I wish I could hug you

and hold on so tight.

I wish for more good times

or even a fight.

 

I wish I could take back

the things that I'd say.

I wish I could see you,

even if for a day.

 

I wish things were different,

I wish you didn't go.

But even after all that

I wish you could know.

 

I wish for the old days,

some good and some bad.

I wish for more memories

you and I could have had.

 

I wish you could see me,

how much I miss you.

But somehow I feel

that you surely do.

 

I know these are just wishes

and you are still gone...

But here in my heart

your memory lives on.

Please review and be honest. I wrote this poem in minutes and only changed a few things that long ago. This is my first submission and the first time I've shared this poem with more than a couple people.

"Wishing" is a promising piece of work from an emerging writer plus a touching tribute to your brother.
I agree that the style is youthful and a bit trite but it is written from the heart and reveals the depth of your sadness and pain. This poem is very moving for the reader. It is a good write, thank you for sharing.
