Valentines Day

Valentines Day

A Poem by Brittney Reynolds

When I was young I was told that dark chocolate was good for the heart, so whenever my heart hurt, I ate dark chocolate

When I grew older I was told that red wine was good for the soul, so when the dark chocolate no longer fed me in the right way I let my drunken words fill the inside of my stomach

And soon I realized that my drunken words were my sober thoughts and that dark chocolate couldn’t tame the words that outlined my stomach anymore.

My heart still hurt

My emotions spilled out onto the wood table the red wine stained, and my hands trembled as my drunk words told me to pour another glass even though the glass was broken.

They say that people drink to sooth the pain; I drink because it’s good for my heart.

I am also a red wine drinker and a dark chocolate eater. I've always enjoyed them both, but now I have an excuse. One is good for the soul and the other is good for the heart. And I will not listen to the naysayers that say they are bad for you. It's all about moderation. A good read. Thank you.

And of course on Vaalentine's day with no cards, just tuck in I say.
