My Self Portrait as BluesA Poem by britishkid16I been made with momma's nape neck sweat, daddy’s clenched jaw; June comes falling apart out back. I been hearing rain turn into damage and careening into shallow rivers I been watching full oaks shaking heat and riddle big horizons blue-green- I been putting myself into the sea. I been hearing momma's hollering me home from dusk - I been having to fix my own dinner now. I been weathering winters of no heat, I been a raucous inside God’s lifted ear. I been stumble-leaning blind in night cities without the other man to bring me into ditches. I been sorry the way sorry was brush stroked- made myself a sad bottom lip too many times. I been painting hell and trying to understand Heaven too long, I been fearing God like that, to be cursed like a man, been fighting like an American, been waiting up cold nights, amber and imagining a distant lovers sleep-sigh draw notes out and out and out with blessed high-humming. I been suffering this in a state of grace.
