Chapter 1: The Truth

Ughhh! Why does it have to be raining again, Ava wondered. She was on her way home from the Vets office. Since she was little she had loved animals and had always wanted to become a vet. So when she saw the ad in the paper for a vet assistant she had to take the job.
She was looking out the wind shield at the rain when a car honked at her from behind. She swerved a little and then set straight again. She looked in the review mirror to catch a angry drivers veiw and get the finger. Go figure, she thought. She also got a glipse of herself before she looked at the road again. Big brown boring eyes stared back at her. She had always hated the color of her eyes because they were plain and uninteresting. She also had glasses because she had really bad eyesight but they were very cute and went with everything. Ava also got a glipse at her hair. It hung longer in the front and shorter in the back. It was her favorite style on her and she would always keep it this length. All around she was pretty but not like the girls in the magazines she read at work.
Just then she had pulled into her driveway of her house. It was a decent size house and matched the neighborhood. But thats not the reason she lived there. The man across the street was there. She had been madly in love with him since her freshman year in highschool. Everyone said it was puppy love but she knew it was for real. Just then she realized that someone was walking up behind her. Ava turned around to see him standing there.
He was wearing a tight fit shirt that showed his muscles and the plains of his chest. The jeans he wore were casual but you could wear them anywhere. His eyes were a hazel and always changed color but they were beautiful anyway. He was a full head size taller than her and thats the way she liked it too. His hair was longish and had a slight curl to it that made him look even better. But the best thing she liked was his smile though. It made her want to run up and just hug him. It also made her want to smile back.
"Hey Tristan!" ,she said a little to enthusiasitcally.
He smiled before answering in a deep but velvety voice. "Hello Ava."
Just the sound of her name coming out of his mouth gave her goosebumps. But Ava wondered why he was here just out of the blue.
She gave him a questioning look and he answered. "Oh! I thought I would come over and see what you were up to. It feels like we havent talked in forever! So I came by just to see if you would want to go see a movie or something?"
Ava about went in cardiact arrest when he said it. It took her awhile to get calmed down. "Ummmm.... sure. I would like that a lot" Ava had to make it sound like she was busy or something to cover up the excitment that was bubbling up inside of her.The farthest thing that the had been was a couple once, but that ended because the were just better off as friends. But now he was looking at her like they were more.
On the way to the drivers side of the car she caught him staring at her. " Is there a problem?" she said in a teasing voice.
Tristan got a look of recognition and looked away fast. Ummm ok, she thought
At the movies they shared popcorn as they watch the goriest movie in the theater. They shared a lot of things but the best was neither of them getting grossed out by a good horror movie. Yet again out of the corner of her eye she caught him staring at her again. She turned to him and stated bluntly, " Do I have a frog on my face or something?" Again he just shook his head and turned back to the screen as a lady behind them shushed noisely. What the heck is going on, Ava thought confused.
At the end of one of the best slasher movie she had ever saw, he snuck yet another quick glance. "Ok what the heck is going on Tristan?" she said in a firm voice.
He looked her straight in the face and said, " I dont really know. You just look really amazing today."
Ava just gave him a odd look and said, " I did everything like usual. But thanks for the compliment I guess." Her heart felt like it was so loud that it was about to jump out of her ribs.
On the way home they had regular Tristan and Ava chit chat. They could talk about anything around each other and never get embarrased or shy. She guessed it was because they had been friends for as long as she could remember. When they finally pulled into the back driveway of Ava's house, she got out and was about to get stuff from the trunk of her beat up Camry, when Tristan grabbed her hand. She looked down at it shocked that he would even touch her. Then she looked up to his face which was inches from hers. The color of his eyes had a sort of trance in them, like she was going to drown in a pool of blue and green.
Tristan stated with gentleness," You know that we have been friends for awhile and that I have always had feeling for you right? Well there are some things that you dont know about me. I have wanted to tell you for awhile but I could never reveal my secret, but I think that you are ready to hear it now."
Ava looked up at him stunned then smiled. " I know whats going on here." Tristan eyes widened. Ava continued, " Nice try Tristan but your not fooling me any. Knock it off." And with that she pulled away. "No!" Tristan said and jerked her back. What the heck is going on she thought once more.
Tristan got another serene look on his face and continued. " I have to tell you something very important Ava, now listen. I know that this will sound really corny and somewhat unbelievable but here it goes..... Im a vampire."

Chapter 2: Truths revealed

Ava looked out of the window at the aproaching storm. It had been exactly an hour since she got the frightning news about Tristan. She couldnt ever believe what he said because it would all end up to be a joke and she would look like a complete idot. Her mind told her otherwise though. The look in his eyes when he said that he was a vampire..... The thought of the word sent shivers up her spine. Get ahold of yourself she told herself quickly.
The storm outside was raging now and lightning struck once or twice out in the distance. Ava was too preoccupied in the storm going outside that she didnt even see the flash of a transformer blowing. Ava's electricity went out leaving her in the dark. Oh thats just perfect, she thought to herself. She headed to the kitchen to get some of the leftover Christmas candles from her family reunion. She was just about to the drawer when she heard a noise from upstairs. Ava strained her ears so hard that she heard a delicate ringing. It was just my imagination getting to me again she thought grumply.
On her way back to the staircase that took her up to her room, she heard it again. Ok i definatly heard something that time she thought. Thankfully right next to her staircase was a grand fireplace and a piano. She grabed the fire poker out of the holder and slowly went up the stairs. There was a lot of bumping and crashing that sounded like it was coming from her room. When she got to her huge, solid oak door, she took a couple of breaths to slow her accelerated heart beat. Ok here we go she thought. She opened the door quickly and firmly so that she could hit someone if they were on the other side of the door. Nothing hit the door so she dropped the poker and turned on her light. It all happend in a flash after that. Someone was standing with their back facing the window watching the storm and they turned around so fast that she only saw a blur of movement in front of her. The attacker went around her backside and grabbed ahold of her waist and clamped a hand over her mouth. "Its going to be all ok. Dont freak out, ok Ava?" How do you know my name, she thought in a instant. The attacker turned her around and the first thing she saw were the blue-green hazel of him. "Tristan?" she asked. He got out of the shadow of the door and she saw that it was him. "Im going to murder you!" she screamed at his face. "What are you doing here? How did you get in?"
Tristan just gave a little shrug and took a step forward that sent Ava a step back. "You dont have to be afraid Ava. I just came over here to explain again. You didnt take it very well last time. I realize that I came on a little strong." Oh my god, she thought, he is telling the truth. "I came through the window. Being a vampire makes me a lot more stronger than humans." He picked up one of the metal silver chairs that sat in her room and bent the leg almost off, he then put it back to normal.
I cant take this she thought. Ava started to cry. She didnt know how long she had stood there and cried but after awhile, a pair of strong arms encircled her."Its going to be all right. Its going to be all right," was what he said over and over in her ear. She couldnt take it anymore. The room was spinning out of control and she could feel her knees going wobbly. Tristan caught her before she was able to hit the ground. The last thing she saw before the blackness took her over, were blue-green hazel eyes.
* * * *

Ava woke up with a start. What the heck happend to me, she thought. She was laying in her pink and blue bed with the blankets pulled and tucked around her. She looked around the room for some reason to why she was here. On the floor next to her dresser was a fire poker. It came back to her in a rush after that. She remembered the attacker in her room, then the blue-green hazel eyes of Tristan. She then looked over to her chair. It was a little dented in the right leg. Oh my god, she thought, Trsitan is a vampire. Thinking about that almost made her go into histerieas again. It was then that her door opened and Tristan walked in. He sat down on her bed with a look of worry on his face. He looked her straight into her eyes searching for something and then got up abruptly when he found it. He went to go stand by the window that he stood by when he attacked Ava the night before and folded his arms across his chest.
Ava had to break the tension in the room. She went over to him and put her arms around his waist and hugged him from behind. Tristan turned so that he was facing Ava and held on to her tightly. "I cant stand the fact that im a vampire. It kills me to see you become afraid when I walk into a room now. I just want everything to be like it was before. Except that it will be just a little different." Tristan stated. Ava looked square into his beautiful eyes and started to drown in the pool of blue and green.
Ava's response for this was setting her head against his chest and listening to silence from within. Tears came to her eyes and Tristan pulled her face up to wipe them away with his thumb. "I love you Tristan. I always have and I always will," Ava said," You being a vampire and all doesnt change the way I feel inside. Your just a little more durable than I would of expected."
Tristan chuckled and then reached his head down to plant one delicate and sweet kiss on Ava's lips. The room started to spin for Ava just a little but Tristan held her steadily. She realized then that he would always be there to hold her steady. I think I can get used to this, Ava thought.

Chapter 3: Getting used to the durable side

Ava scribbled dreamly on her note book in Biology class. It has seemed to go very fast after her and Tristan made up. A week had passed and yet she still felt a little different from when her old Tristan used to hang with her. She smiled at the thought of all the good times she had with him then. Mr. Berkly called for an answer then and she had to refocus on the subject or she was surely going to fail.
At the end of class she walked down the abandoned hallway to her locker that was farther than anyone elses. Ava put in her locker combination and tugged at her locker that wouldnt budge. She started to pull harder but it wouldnt work. All of a sudden hands materialized by her locker and yanked it open for her. Ava looked up to see Tristan with a smug smile on his face looking down at her. His face still knocked the breath out of her, expecially when he smiled. He could hear the acceleration of her heart and his smile got bigger. Get ahold of yourself you silly girl, Ava told herself.
Tristan looked at her still and then she started to blush. "Will you stop looking at me!?" she said teasing. Tristan stated matter of factly, "Well i cant help it that you are the most beautiful girl in the entire world!" Ava just rolled her eyes and shrugged. He always had a thing for expanding the truth sometimes.
Just then the bell rang for the next class to begin."Crap!!" Ava muttered quickly. Tristan just laughed, pecked her on the cheeck then vanished in midair. Wow he is really fast Ava thought to herself while turning to run to her next class.
When the school day was finally over, Ava went to the parking lot for her car. But right where she had parked, another car was there. What the heck?, she thought. She ran up to the car, ready to beat the crap out of them, when Tristan got out of the drivers side of the car and went to go open the passenger side. "Where is my car?" Ava said in dibelief. Tristan chuckled a little and said " Well since you are my girlfriend and all, i have to give you rides whether I want to or not." Tristan said teasing. Ava just shook her head, and climbed into the car.

Chapter 4: Changing the view

Ava got out of her car and was turned looking at my house with an expression of wonder on her face. Ava had her hair the way that I liked it the best, down and not up. She was wearing scrubs from the vet’s office but she is the only person I know who could make them look good. She turned abruptly when she felt me looking at her. Other people’s expression would have been wonder, or disbelief, but hers was relaxed and relived.
“Hey Tristan!”, she said too enthusiastically and I could see the excitement and wonder rising up on her face. I replied simply, “Hello Ava.” I saw her shudder as I said her name while goose bumps rose up on her arms, then her heart accelerated. She always knew how to impress me.
She gave me a questioning look of why I was here and I stated, “Oh! I thought I would come over and see what you were up to. It feels like we haven’t talked in forever! So I came by to see if you wanted to go to a movie or something?” Wow smooth move Tristan, I thought to myself.
Her heart accelerated once again and I thought that by how loud her heart was that she wasn’t going to recover. But after awhile she stated, “Ummmm….. sure. I would like that a lot.” Was she busy or did I just get that vibe, I thought to myself.
She started along the side of her car again and I couldn’t help but look. She was just so pretty today. “Is there a problem?” she said in a teasing voice. I recognized that Ava was my best friend and that’s it, and I looked away.

When the movie started I looked at Ava again, but just a peak. Of course she noticed. I have never felt this way about her before but now emotions were going wild inside of me. She turned a little and had a look of unpatients on her face. "Do I have a frog on my face or something?" She stated. I just shook my head and kept a chuckle locked inside. She was so funny when she was agitated. A lady shushed noisily at us and Ava shot a glare to her, while i turned back to the movie screen.

After the best slasher movie that I have ever seen in all my years, I snuck a quick glance at her again. What the heck was wrong with me? I didnt have to chastize myself though. Ava took my arm and jerked me back. She had the same look on her face as before, "Ok what the heck is going on Tristan?" she said in the sternest voice I have ever heard her use. I had to admit it now. "I dont know. You just look really amazing today" I said.

She gave herself one quick lookover before she gave me a look of doubt. " I did everything like ususal. But thanks for the compliment I guess." I knew already thought that my answer had affected her emotionaly though because she blushed hard. Her shyness never really covered what she was feeling inside.

When we finally arrived at her house again Ava looked as happy as ever. I didn't think that I could trust her in the past because she seemed so fragile, but now I thought that I could tell her the secret that showed what a real predator I was. She was coming around the car to get something out of the trunk and I stopped her mid stride with a gentle squeeze of her hand. She looked down at my hand like she was appaled and then up to my face which was just inches from hers. The smell of her blood was now on a rampage through my nose.

I tried to keep the first sentence gentle so that I wouldn't scare her. I stated, "You know that we have been friends for awhile and I have always had feelings for you right? Well there are some things that you don't know about me. I have wanted to tell you for awhile but I could never reveal my secret, but I think you are ready to hear it now.At the movies me and her both picked the goriest one. I loved it that she wasn't grossed out by all the blood, but she was a vet, go figure. We sat down in our regular seat, which was right in the middle, and shared our overly buttered popcorn. I shuddered at the thought of choking it back up after I left, but i would go to lenths to conceal my identity of the monster that lurked

Ava looked scared all of a sudden. The peach of her cheeks drained so that she looked ghostly. Then she laughed which made everything worse. She thinks that Im playing some practical joke on her or something, i thought. " I know whats going on here," Ava said matter of factly. My eyes widened with the thought that she already knew, but she continued, "Nice try Tristan but you're not fooling me any. Knock it off." WIth that she jerked back her hand and started for the trunk again.

I jerked it right back and sent her reeling toward me once more. A mere "No!" exaped from me and she had the frightened look on her face again. Ok no more fooling around Tristan, just get on with it, he thought to himself. " I have to tell you something very important Ava, now listen. I know this will sound corny and somewhat unbelievable but here it goes," Ava got a look on her face like curiousity and confusion mixed and then I stated, " I'm a vampire."

Well... to be honest I like the concept. The names too. Ava and Tristen do sound nice. But the first chapter was a little too short. You might want to detail their friendship a bit more. How they met, the things they do etc etc and then bring this scene into the story. And some parts were a little too much.. for example:
She also had glasses because she had really bad eyesight but they were very cute and went with everything.

haha I suppose people wear glasses because they have really bad eyesight and you dont need to mention it goes with everything. Makes it sound very meg cabot-y, like a fashionista.

I hope you understand what am trying to say. Its a very good storyline and your description is very well done. But you need to give it that haunted vampire ordeal rather than moving it into the whole 'vampire falls in love with best friend in a cheesy way and face bad guys and conquer love' etc. Unless thats how you want the story to go =]
I just want people to develop their own way of writing rather than following in Twilight footsteps and make it into the overrated story we all love yet some hate. Haha I hope I am not sounding rude to you. But I really like what you have done. Just a proof read once or twice and your good to go =]
