Flaws

Flaws

A Poem by bringthestoke

This one is long, I'd very much appreciate the read if you have the time. :) It's very special to me.

Flaws
You tugged on my sleeve
Like it was a rope
In the most influential tug of war
This nation has ever seen
Like this tug of war
Would decide on America keeping slavery

I laughed and asked you what it was that you wanted
You looked me in the eyes, and asked me if I
Wanted to go to a concert with you
I asked who was performing
You allowed Bastille to roll off of your tongue
As if you were afraid
I would say I didn’t like that band
Or I was busy that day

But your eyes lit up
Like all of the stars in the night sky
When I told you
“Sure, I’d love to”
Was I sure though?
“Of course, I’ve never been to a concert,
And it would be with you”

Your cheeks turned that beautiful pink
That they do so often
Those red cheeks
Are one of my favorite features
About you
Next to your hair
A luscious pastel pink
That’s fading
Back to a beautiful blonde
And your big blue eyes
That seem to be deep enough
For me to swim in
Forever
No, I wouldn’t have to worry about drowning
Since you are
The air in my lungs
And the blood in my muscles

Oh, my,
I apologize for the digression
It’s tough staying on track
When I could change the subject
To you

You told me the concert
Will be Monday
And so
I sat in my silence
And waited for Monday
Monday came, and I was distraught
From lack of sleep
But, nonetheless,
I was exhilarated to go
This was my first time out with you
Alone
We caught the train
And we talked about anything
And everything
From Attleborough to Providence
And when we arrived,
We made it an adventure
To run around
Like chickens
Trying to find the Red Line
To Pleasant
Just to take the Green Line
To Park

And when we arrived,
We bought matching Bastille shirts
That said Flaws on the sleeve
It was instantly
My new favorite shirt

We walked down
To the concert floor,
And waited for them to come out
Grizfolk, a little-known band
Opened for Bastille
And believe me
When I say
I was in awe

Grizfolk was amazing
I plan to rob all of the banks on the East Coast
To buy all of their merch
And all of their albums

When they introduced Bastille,
You started jumping and screaming
Shouting,
“Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!”
They started to play their new songs
I thought I was in awe before
Well, let me tell you,
The doctors still haven’t found a way
To put my jaw
Back on its hinges
They were absolutely
Stunning
And so were you
You were having the time of your life
And I was soaking it all in
Like that night
Was my last

I managed to shout,
“What song is your favorite?”
You told me it was Flaws,
You would let me know
When they start playing the song
That would cement my feelings for you
Forever
I got cold feet
When you started screaming,
“This is Flaws! Oh my gosh!”
Okay, this is your moment
Grab her around the waist
And pull her in
As close
As possible
And when I did, I hyped myself up
For the big moment
But in the midst
Of all of that
Hype
You planted a kiss
On my cheek
that blossomed
Into the most beautiful
Venus Fly Trap
I’d ever had the utmost privilege
To call yours
Because my love for you
Flew straight into that trap
And that trap
Snapped closed
And I’ve never been happier
To have finally been caught
Because this time
I didn’t want to escape

I knew it was time
I grabbed you by the waist
And kissed you
The first real kiss we’ve ever had
And you smiled
From ear to ear
And your cheeks got red
Of course, the concert was dark
But I just knew
Because we have the same mind
And the same sense of humor
We have the same taste
We love the same things
And hate the same things
Like plain, non-fat yogurt
I still shudder to this day

We headed back home from the concert
Where you fell asleep on my lap
And I couldn’t help
But doze off myself

Eventually,
We reached your house
Where, if my memory serves me right,
You fell asleep on me again
You tend
To fall asleep on me alot
Don’t get embarrassed, though
I love it

After we said goodnight to each other
and had our usual hug
And we went our separate ways
I couldn’t help but stay
Wide awake
Thinking about how much
I absolutely loved Flaws

This one is worth a reading. The words, the structure, the lyricism and of course the romance, they all are perfectly blended.

Thanks for sharing. :)
