A Poem by bringthestoke

Trust
You told me this morning
That she had hurt your throat last night
When she had playfully got you in a choke hold
You were father and daughter,
And I understand
The bond between the two
The father protects the daughter
From the minute she’s born
‘til the minute she dies
And for me
To try and protect her aswell
(Though I know she doesn’t need protecting)
Well that might not fly so well
With you
Because,
That’s your baby girl
And to you,
I’m just another teenage kid
That’s going to break her heart
But, I’m sure you know already
I’m not like most guys my age
That is to say
This isn’t me asking if you’d
Be alright with us together
It’s to ask
If you’d
Be alright with me committing
to your daughter
I’m not one
To leave when it gets rough
I’m one
To hold on
And make it work
And be there for her
Until she leaves me
I guess what I’m trying to say is
I’ve been trying to say this to you
For months now
But
Much like you last night,
I guess
I keep getting choked up
