Opposites Attract

Opposites Attract

A Poem by BrightEyes

My love looms large, towering over me

Her muscles bulging; overpowering me

Expressing happiness in loud tones

Sometimes she does not hear me

Selflessly sharing food and drink

Her enthusiasm astounds me

Roughly she plays; tossing me

Unaware of her strength

Comprehension of complicated thoughts

Constantly elude her mind

Simple emotionality drives her

Love, the ruling Queen

In quiet slumber, cuddling

Her larger frame, warms me

All previous dreams of a love

More petite, less bungling

Dissipate like morning fog

With her slobbering kiss

Society, rampant with intolerance

Seeks to shame me

Standing side by side

An odd picture we may create

In our hearts it matters not

That she is dog, and I am cat

This brought a warm smile to my face, recalling recent memories as I have tried hunting down all manner of different images of hugs to share with people. It is a strange world that we live in, where people profess to be so open about love - but where they still try to view it in some cookie cutter fashion that was outdated before there were cookies...

This is such a cool poem!

You had me suckered in trying to figure out the angle, so I admit I read ahead... that just made me laugh thinking of the image in my head before I knew!

So, so creative. That's one of the only reasons I stick around (that and my possum tail is stuck under a rocking chair)...

That's very interesting, it makes me think of how people don't like different races joining together as couples.

this is spot on...on so many levels. There is a depth to this poem that makes it very poigniant and even more outstanding.

Howo very cute. I love it and the twist at the end really got me, I wasn't expecting it at all.
I simply adore poems with that little twist. It shows there was some thought behind it.
Going tomy favorites.
