I Know They Wait

I Know They Wait

A Poem by BrightEyes

He waits patiently each day
Looking expectantly
Listening hopefully
That each sound brings my return

He will wait forever
If I ask it of him

He showers me with affection
Expecting so little
Giving so much
Reading my mood like a book

He will love me forever
Receiving nothing

He is a willing servant
To my desires
Surrendering all ego
For my happiness alone

He would give his life for me
If it was so required

I have known others like him
All loyal, all true
Different, yet the same
In their unconditional love for me

They will greet me with abundant joy
When I take the final journey

All of them I have loved so much
Grieved upon their leaving
My heart healed by another
Holding yet a place for each

My friends, companions, confidantes
My dogs.

There is something simple in their love for us, though simple is both the right word and the wrong word for it. They do not love us with all the insecurities and complexities that we might love one another. Some seek to train them to do this or to do that, often overlooking all that we could learn from just paying attention to what they do so naturally and how much better a world this world might just be... if we could love like they do.

This is beautiful. They say the pets rush past the ancestors to greet you first when you arrive on the other side. Of course, I completely believe it!! It's so quiet and lonely without a dog in the house. We've had dogs my whole life... but now mom's gone and Dad won't get another. It was the first purchase we planned to make when my man and I were getting a house. And the major disappointment after not getting a house was not being able to get a dog!!!! More upset about the dog than the house falling through... and that was our dream home!! What a wonderful tribute to our furry friends. I applaud and echo the sentiment!!
Much love~

I love this piece. This is exactly what it is to have a beloved furry companion. I feel this way about my kitties. :)

Our most loyal, faithful companions. They love us no matter what we look or smell like. This is very nice.
