Morning Coffee

Morning Coffee

A Poem by BrightEyes

It passes on the edge of my vision
A shadowy figure in the early dawn
Silently, slowly cautiously

I wonder if it senses my presence
As I gaze upon its beauty
In quiet amazement once again

Its movement ceases abruptly
Limbs tensed for flight
Ears forward and eyes alert

A snort, a flick of a tail
Then relaxing as before
Deciding the threat is a false one

The sunrise I am here to behold
Becomes the enemy, as red tinges the sky
I know this time has ended

This time its head turns towards me
It takes my measure, recognizing me
For what I am,  human

No tensing and waiting this time
With unbelievable grace and swiftness
It returns from whence it came

I am better for this brief respite
Released for a moment
Far away from worries of past, present and future

Red, gold, orange and purple
Fill the velvety dark sky
I sigh at the wonderment of it all

I smile and rise up at last
To face the day with renewed hope
Having shared morning coffee

with the majestic buck

bravo! i loved this.. i could imagine the beauty of this creature when nothing else is around. you've described this moment vividly. i also have a tendency of sneek up on animals (mainly birds) and watching them until they sense my presence & fly away.

very well done!

It is an intriguing balance that we seek, in looking at those matters that sit on our plate as members of society and in trying to remember that humans are not alone on this planet. We can often get caught up in trying to keep up with the busy drone of tasks that we must accomplish so we can get from point a to point b. It is in moments such as this, where we are reminded that there not only is more than just getting from here to there - but that there is an entire world out there waiting for us - and it is generally right here.

As I was reading this piece... I would imagine my Saturday morning break.. out where I affectionately call the "smokers" corner. I am not a smoker... but that is a the corner where you can sit and drink your morning cup of coffee and watch the resident jack rabbit enjoy the morning sun. :)

Such a wonderful story woven... it enthralls the reader to wonder... what animal is she observing?
A peaceful piece...

you open this poem with such a mesmerizing vision, sets the theme nicely,
i love how you describe the shadowy figure that passes out of the corner of
the eye, haunting, realisticness touch, how you entwine the situation into
your morning coffee routine, this is really just absolutely beautifully imagined,
and graceful, magical, you capture nature in words, and create a portrait
imagey, colorful splendor brushed upon the readers mind, the images come
to life, the ambience is majestic, and sets the readers heart adrift! mike

There is nothing more wonderful than sharing moments such as this with only nature. When I went to stay with my Mama, she took me to visit her mom in IL. They live in such a gorgeous place, there were turtles and rabbits and squirrels and birds galore. In the morning, Mama and I would sit out on the porch and just watch all of the animals scurry around, it was magical. You've captured that magic perfectly, I held my breath as I read this.

Beautiful, calm and restful. There's nothing like being up before daylight, alone with the world.
