Like Leaves in Autumn

Like Leaves in Autumn

A Poem by Daniel DeLorez
"

I decided that writing in the perspective of a living creature was too "typical." I wonder how many will understand...

"

Sometimes,
I feel sorry for these people;
This human race.

Death is a wholly natural occurrence.
Why do they not understand?

It baffles me to think
Having lived life as it was intended
That one may never let go
Of all that ever was or could have been.

Do they not understand
That the passing of life
Is but a change in setting?

Oh,
I wish I had a voice.
I wish I could only tell them
All that they are missing.

Sometimes,
I wish I could shed a tear
For all that they forsake.

And for what?
To linger on in regret?

If only I could push them away,
Into the next place
Where they belong
And where they ought to have gone.

I am such a dreadful place.
Why can they not see?
Why do they not understand?

They linger here
Like the last leaves of Autumn,
Only Autumn never came
And they may never leave.

Author's Note

Daniel DeLorez
Just wrote this in all of about five minutes on a whim. It was more of an experiment than anything. It's a sort of riddle, so let me know what you think it's about (or rather, who or what is talking).
