A Mourning Dove, Once FlightlessA Poem by Brian M. PeeplesI have written countless words, one for each and every songbird. And I have strung upon the heartstrings of each and every mourning dove, who has ever loved, and then lost. And who would have thought a songbird would lose its wings, when it had never before tried to stretch its brilliant wings and fly. The mourning dove, the songbird, may listen to my words, my poetry, and perhaps it may soon come to see that there are many, many possibilities; the endless, flightful, adventurous seas to endure, to travel, and to one day cease. And to fight the great fight between the songbirds and the humming bees. And I hope she wins, for she is quite strong, as I now may listen to her sing her song. And for each and every word that may fall, so then does the bird I’d written it for. Luckily, I shall stand tall, build a wall, and forget all that ever troubled me. I’ll be a free songbird among the many humming bees… And that is when I may lastly be happy… you will see, as you are now that same mourning dove that I once was. Though now, we may both find our peaceful start, and instill an everlasting love, for I may love you, with all my heart, my once flightless mourning dove. © 2016 Brian M. Peeples |
