Wherever Here Is

Wherever Here Is

A Poem by Brian M. Peeples

In a land that is far, far away,

or rather yet, right there,

right where it needs to be,

and where it should always

stay; to this very day,

there are many things that

may allow me to believe.

In what, I sometimes wonder.

It could be anything, or anyone,

or even… no one. I then ponder

the thoughts of a burning candle

that may one day soon burn out.

And as I wish not to be like this,

the harder I fight, the easier it is.

Which is why I’ve come here,

to wherever here is. Somewhere,

perhaps anywhere. Or just there.

In a land far, far away; a place I made.

And as I dream of this wonderful place,

I can hear it, I know it, it’s calling my name.

I’m far, far away, yet I’m right here.

And at times, my mind is elsewhere.

In a place I’ve yet to give a name,

in some other world that isn’t the same

as where I am from, nor are you.

And as I blow out this burning kiss,

I may then realize it. Wherever here is.

sounds like a beautiful lost voyage in the imagination

I do understand this poem.
"I’m far, far away, yet I’m right here.
And at times, my mind is elsewhere.
In a place I’ve yet to give a name,"
I wish for Big Sur in wishes and dreams. Maybe Big Sur had become just a wish. Thank you Brian for sharing the excellent poetry.

Words you have, but meaning eludes.

"In a land that is far, far away,"

This is pretty specific. There is no ambiguity in either the term "land" or in t being far from the writer. But then you waffle with, "or rather yet, right there," and then change again to "right where it needs to be,"

I'm certain you have intent for the meaning a reader should take from the words. But once you release your words into the world you, your intent, and everything about you becomes irrelevant. It's the reader, and what your words suggest to THAT person, based on their background and experience.

So while it may be deeply meaningful to you, what are the odds that a reader from a different area, different background, age and even gender, will read the words inspired by YOUR situation, and generate that same set of images and emotions in their mind?
