At Last, I Was Gone

At Last, I Was Gone

A Poem by Brian M. Peeples

The Sun shines,

so brightly,

over the

valley of dreams,

to where I lay

that very same night,

as I have come

to conclude that things

are not what they

truly seem,

and I find truth in

these few words:

I hang from

her heart,

as gravity

keeps me afoot,

whilst trying not

to venture off,

and find myself

in possible

oblivion.

Although, I am

quite unfortunate,

for my heart was staked,

and murdered,

in cold blood.

I could feel it,

the life dripping

from my wet veins,

and the land,

forever stained.

I nearly fell,

though she grabbed

a hold of my arm,

and pulled me up,

holding onto me

until my last breath

escaped from my lungs.

And then she knew,

that I was gone

at last.
