Between Life & Death

Between Life & Death

A Poem by Brian M. Peeples

My mind chaotically dances

in the stillness of night,

forcing myself to remain awake

until the Sun rises to light,

which is then when I shall slumber,

and when others may play.

Eyes that have grown so dark,

drowning in the sorrows of pain,

and of sheer misery.

As cold as ice; a freezing rain,

I take this blade,

and shatter it,

while in so deep.

Removing the dagger

that binds my soul to this very life,

seems not of possibility,

as I have melted the knife

and imbedded it into my tortured body.

To become one with my soul

for all of eternity.

And it is the same melted fragments

that circulate through my veins,

in a flow of red liquid; of blood,

that allows myself to live.

A double-edged sword

that shall one day end my reign.

And leave me in a better place.

Perhaps even somewhere out there,

out in outer space,

where all things vanish into

that which is void

of air.

Where I will be,

between both life and death,

and all the rest.

And where I shall be free

of all the pain,

that had once forced me

to bleed.
