My Final Sleep

My Final Sleep

A Poem by Brian M. Peeples

Many days I wonder

what it’s like over yonder,

on the other side…

A side that is not yet known

but still, many call it home

at the end of their life…

I sometimes wonder…

what it’s like leave this place

and enter my own space…

A space that is nobody’s home,

none except my own…

where I can live at my own pace

I sometimes feel…

as though my time is up,

when emptiness fills the cup…

Is that not enough?

The pain, the agony

…which you can never see…

Is it so difficult to breathe?

Sometimes the tough

Lie down and sleep…

Forever, they rest…

awake only in memory

yet, to never be woken again...

…Is this the end, my final sleep?

Exploring the other side in this poetry... It is an interesting piece. Beautiful work!

Sleep tolerates no end of fickle behavior from the living. When we wake, we forget the great gift she gave us; when we're tired, we resent the impending loss of our conscious pleasures; but when we're in her, oh how we love her. Perhaps it is the same with death.

I hope it's not your final sleep. Then, I won't have anyone fun to talk to when I'm bored XD
Great poem, Brian! And congrats on it being your first poem of 2015!

A deeply moving and heart wrenching write here Brian - deep and sincere thoughts on the question we all have asked at least once in our lives.
Is it so difficult to breathe?
"Sometimes the tough
Lie down and sleep…" - yes unfortunately they do - I have personal attachment to this line - it spoke to me of many friends whom I thought Life's battlers - who simply one day, gave up... leaving us with nothing but questions. :.(
Your heart and soul is in this -
To say Happy New Year after this seems wrong but I wish you the best this year, my friend.
