A Stranger's Face

A Stranger's Face

A Poem by Brian M. Peeples

I had drawn a face

to stare back at me,

but it is not what I am

nor what I truly need

But this face,

the masqueraded figure,

that stares back through the mirror

so seemingly out of place,

It haunts my image, and

tends to my deepest fears

bringing the darkness to light

Followed by such awful tears

I begin to embrace this stranger,

but a worthy friend, he is not

and a captive of his mind, I am

leaving me as his prisoner,

a helpless man...

I have now become that face,

the one I had simply drawn in,

now within that once broken mirror

staring back, back at that...

that lonely, lonely stranger’s face...

I have to say, I wasn't expecting this when I read the title. I'm glad I read it though, it is truly a haunting poem. Great job and keep writing!!

This is class Brian - the idea behind it - genius and the execution is flawless - its a Dorian Gray for the modern writer - as I said pure class
Thanks for the RR

Sometimes I wonder if the face I draw in for myself is the same face that others see.
Self discovery can be eye opening. Good poem Brian.
