Only Human

Only Human

A Poem by Brian M. Peeples

We all may live,

We all may die,

Chances are

We may also cry,

And as we breathe

May we also see

The pain; the flames

Of the burning man

The desolate sand

Where we may live

And to utterly give

Our dying hearts away

As I pray, I must say

That we are all the same

Man, woman; adult, and child

Young, and old; tamed, and wild

But to think we always fight

To think that we just might...

Even have the decency

To forgive, and to forget

And to let each other live,

Live in peace, and to remember

The burning embers

Of the forgotten hope

That we all once shared

And to my utter despair,

I cared too, too much

But as we all know...

That out there somewhere

There may be a remaining hope

I surely know it, I truly do

After all, we are only human…

Now, let that hope break through...

It is a beautiful piece. Loved it. :) It very accurately describes the burden of our deeds and that we all seek to free us from this chaos that we seem to have fallen into ; a ray of hope! Very well written! Keep writing!

This reminds me of a story I once wrote for school. Love!

Quite intense for one so young. Nice piece and I also think it would read and flow better in stanzas.

There's a song that was sang in the 80s pertaining to this and a funny commercial as well . I read a short quote which says " To err. is human but to forgive is divine ". I wonder where do we learn to forgive ? This is. a beautiful piece Brian. Thanks for sharing it .

"In times of despair and confusion for mankind, she has always rallied the power of words to invoke clarity and purpose." A beautiful example at hand.

A really good write..

"There may be a remaining hope
I surely know it, I truly do
After all, we are only human…
Now, let that hope break through.."

There is always hope. Without hope, there is no reason for us to live.. :)

A powerful piece.

NOTES: I think this would flow better and allow for more impact if you set it down into stanzas.
