Doubt

A poem I found that was written shortly after my ex boyfriend and I broke up.

Sometimes I wonder if we ever
Truly felt any love at all.

We were both so filled with hatred
Of our own existences,

That maybe when we found each other
We convinced ourselves it was love.

We told ourselves that we were
Capable of loving someone else.

We let ourselves believe that
What we felt could be eternal.

But I don’t think that what we had
Could really be considered love.

After all, how can you love another
If you don’t even love yourself?
