Just Another Day

Another day has gone by, yet again

My thoughts of you rage through my mind as strong as ever

To let go means forgetting you

To keep you in my heart means holding in the painful memories

What to do in this position in my life

What should I do?

Forget

Or remember?

 

Father’s day is coming, you know as well as me

Just another sad day where I haven’t you next to me

You probably wouldn’t even bother to read this poem

For you want to forget me

But you want to keep me in your heart

But to keep me in your heart means to keep the pain

To let go means to lose a part of you

A part that is your son

What shall happen?

 

I admit, I did leave you

I just had to get away from the pain inflicted upon my very soul

Being locked in my room didn’t really dissuade me from leaving

I’m sincerely sorry for leaving my loving father

I just didn’t understand why I had to be treated so severely

I know your reasons, it’s just I don’t know why it was so horrible

Four years, in my room was a little much, you’d have to admit

My mind isn’t the same because of it

I’m sorry.

 

I guess I wanted too much from you and I guess it was too much for me

Now, I think I do want to be forgotten

I won’t forget you, father

I do love you still

Even if the memories are painful true love is stronger

Even with the distance.

 

I do thank you for your knowledge I obtained from you over them years

I really do thank you, for it has come in handy quite often afterwards

Thank you for it all

I just wish it would have turned out a little different

I wish I wasn’t surrounded by these people of lies and disloyalty

Thank you.

 

Happy father’s day, even if we’ve pushed each other away

Brian, love is so very complicated. I wager you that underneath it all he does love you. Your poem is filled with the core of your love for him without any entangled emotional rant....that is really good. I say that because it would have been easy to have turned this into something other than it is. Well done.

Silently pondering. I am not sure how to respond to this poem. It is one of the most, if not the most touching, painful poems I have ever read. Truly. Oh my...

I am only going to say that this piece has touched my very deeply and I am silenced by its impact. Your writing is superb, however it doesn't seem fitting to go there.
