Not really a category for this piece. I suppose nearest to Monologue I could get. Just a few thoughts re. a news broadcast that brought good news rather than tragedies etc. If only...

Good News.

Good Evening , here are the news headlines for today, Saturday October 20th 2023.

The peace treaty signed last week, between Israel’s new leader Silvan Shalom and Palestine’s  Aziz  Duwaik,  is holding up well. Palestians are rejoicing that they are being given back ownership of  the disputed West Bank and Gaza Strip in return for a permanent end to hostilities and terrorist attacks. A rebuilding program has already begun with aid from Israel, USA, Britain and other foreign sources.     Quoting passages from the Old Testament:-

(Deuteronomy 20:10 )  When you march up against a city, make its people an offer of peace.

Mr. Shalom ( whose name means peace ) said that we must live out the principles that we believe in, from Holy Scriptures, and which have been handed down through countless generations,  if we are to please God regardless of what others may think.

The newly established Democratic Republic of Syria under the leadership of Mr. Ghadbian of the Syrian National Coalition, has encouraged displaced families and people scattered throughout Europe to return. He has promised jobs and new homes to everyone who is willing to work to improve the economy.

In a statement today issued by King Charles, he once more reiterated his desire to see every town and village lay aside a small portion of land for community farming where residents would be encouraged to grow their own organic produce.

Scientists at Yale University have discovered the faulty gene responsible for  cancer. When diagnosis is made early enough this gene can be isolated and replaced by a healthy gene from suitable donor.

The Altzeimers  Society have welcomed the breakthrough and new initiative in treating those who have been diagnosed with dementia in last 2 years. Researchers have discovered that it is possible to stimulate the brain cells and help the mind to remember life events from years ago. They say that it will act in a similar way to a System restore available on PCs. A ‘memory card’ which has been programmed with stories, photographs and voices from the person’s past could be slotted into a specially designed contraption attach to the wrist. Signals are then sent to receptors implanted in the brain, stimulating brainwaves and facilitating instant recall. In experiments, the aptly named Mrs. Head was fitted with the device and went on to win her local Age Concern Chess Championships.

And now the Sports Headlines :-     Wales are celebrating their 22-20 victory over Japan in the Rugby World Cup Final after a hard fought match. Wales captain. Hallam Amos , hailed the victory as the greatest achievement of his career and marked Wales finest hour. He humbly attributed success to coach Warren Gatland .

Golfers everywhere are grateful to Alan Ball who has developed a remote control ball finder that all players will love. A tiny microchip is implanted in the centre of the ball, its small weight being offset by the rest of the materials used. A hand held detector will show the exact location of where the ball has come to rest. Rory Mcllroy and others say this should greatly reduce scores. ( I don’t think it will help some , however, like me, to retrieve balls from the lake !!)

The weather for the coming week promises to see a return to  downpours and storms. This is very welcome news after the 4 week drought we have been through. Reservoirs should be topped up and farmers say it should be just in time to save most of their crops.

And finally.... a school in Cardiff have introduced incentives for children to attend school on a regular basis. If the children are in school for 99 consecutive days they will receive the prize of a Mr. Whippy icecream, complete with flake ! Waiving aside some concerns that it was an unhealthy idea, the head of Willows High said it waa definitely working .  Well it’s certainly an ice idea J

So it’s time to say Goodnight from the team here at the Good News Broadcasting Association.
