A Poem by B. Lapinski

Your right

maybe I do try too hard

to pump out these words

typing

typing

typing

reading

reviewing

edit

edit

the keyboard loves me

loves the touch of my editing fingers

I make it feel like a woman

like the love of my life

like it actually means something to me

I ravage my keyboard

line after line

night after night

producing something that I myself

enjoy reading

something I like to hear and feel

and relax to

and jive to

in a drunken stupor

because it makes sense

My friend....

I admire you

for coming forward

to put me in my place

to deflate my head

just a little

I am balanced now

and for that I thank you

Is it because I gave you some advice

because you try

to rhyme every line

not once

not twice

but over and over again

This reminds me

of a poem by a beat

for a beat

"poets hitch hiking on the highway"

it makes me want to sing

"staaawberry fiieelds foorrever"

hear it

hear me

bellowing for something new

something great

something that you too can enjoy

something that proclaims poetry

in the highest sense of the word

I am tired now

I am ready to dream

I am ready

Mr. Lapinski,

Well done with this one. I find seeking out rhyme in a poem just for the sake of having rhyme is an injustice to the art of poetry. I think it forces words into awkward positions which distracts from the sonics of a poems rather than adding to them. Your style reminds me of imagism, or more precisely organic imagism. Please don't write just for your own amusement. You have a talent that should be shared. I am enjoying myself tremendously reading your poetry.

I like strawberry fields forever....
sorry, my mind wanders-- anyway, this poem has a very good point. I don't know why many poets have to rhyme or add special rythmns to their writing to fancy it up so that people actually read it. It's like putting writing in a special kind of font to make it look pretty so that the way it looks compensates for how terribly-written it is.
I love the keyboard... it is my friend... :) my fingers hitting the keybord at remarkable speeds is like music to my ears. This peice gets me thinking, and you know something is good when it gets peoples' minds working!

I enjoyed this. It is a great rush of creative energy and seems very positive. You capture the strange thing that goes on bewtween our fingers and the keyboard and have come up with a vigorous retort to a review which, it seems, was not kind to you. But this I am sure is the best way to answer a poor review, by turning on a little magic.
