vote republican

vote republican

A Poem by B. Lapinski

I think it's stupendous

how society works

how we drive our fat cars

windows rolled down

on hot summer days

cigarettes resting between two yellow fingers

singing along to the radio

filling our hungry tanks

at 3.50 a gallon

thanking our country when it fall to 3.15

getting facelifts stapling our stomachs

because we all want to be

that Victoria secret

or Calvin Klein

sex symbol we see in all the adds

on all the magazine covers

we all want to resemble something that we're not

we all want to sell out

be famous

placed on screen

with photographers chasing us around

until we finally go insane

overdose on medication

that was prescribed by a highend doctor

out for a buck

not caring if you live or die

f**k those "green cars"

I want bigger SUVs

that take 125 dollars

to fill the tank

F**k privacy

and all my constitutional rights

I want to be safe

F**k bringing our troops home

I want to forget the reason we sent them in the first place

F**k being proud of myself

I'll just sell out like everyone else

get brainwashed

and vote republican

You have such a strong message here, and you cover every angle. Truly, you did an excellent job pointing out the things that need change in this country. The entire tone of this piece just adds to that message in a concise manner. Like mentioned below me, the cynicism is beautiful. The perfect amount of disdain and humor mixed together....it defintiely strikes a chord of social dissent. These lines made me smile...you pointed out exactly what I LOATHE:

"getting facelifts stapling our stomachs
because we all want to be
that Victoria secret
or Calvin Klein
sex symbol we see in all the adds
on all the magazine covers
we all want to resemble something that we're not
we all want to sell out
be famous
placed on screen
with photographers chasing us around
until we finally go insane
overdose on medication"

it seems as though it is not enough to simply be yourself anymore, and you've done a fine job commenting on that fact. You have a revolutionary mind, and undoubtedly it is people like you who will bring the much needed change into both the current situation, and mentality of the American people.
Thank you for sharing.

Maniacally cynical, and I loved every damned minute of it! If I were Christian (or a republican), you'd hear me screaming amens from the balcony. Instead, I'll just say right-on, and snap my fingers like a good little heathen. From what I've read so far, you are definitely My Kind of Poet. Socially aware, and not a damned bit afraid of speaking your mind. What the world needs now is NOT love, sweet love. What the world needs now is a great big wake up call from writers like yourself.
Outstanding job, and this is going right into my favorites.

Oooh, that was so damned scathing. Excellent commentary on what it seems today's Republican party means. We all want luxury, which makes it not luxurious at all. And even with all we get for ourselves, we still can't appreciate it. How lucky we are to live in such a prosperous country--and how little we care to maintain it.

We live for things, we live for things. We get our big cars and big houses and our iPods, we text and we email. All so we can live in a plastic bubble, and no one has to bother us. We can spend all the money we want on becoming something we are not, isolating ourselves all the while from every little thing that annoys us. ...Wow, this one really riled me up.

Your cursing was well used, not tacky at all. Very angry, and I liked that. Needed to read it! Thanks for sharing.

cynical and told like you read it off my heart! God, I can add so much more to this because I feel so similar and it is scary to think you just touched the surface of it. I really like the style of the piece. There is something about how it builds. I found myself reading it faster and faster as I went along. Gaining that speed is exactly what you were writing about. That is what has happened to America.
Nice write!!
peace,
Danielle
