Shackles

Shackles

A Poem by John B. Bolling
"

"

Drift into the water

Slipping

Under

Shackled

Iron

My hands

Branded

Shackles firm as stone

Slip into the darkness

Drifting

Away

Shackled

Iron

My limbs

Heavy

Shackles bring me home

Shackles, shackles

Chime and rattle

Whisper and hum

Mystery come

Shackles, shackles

End this battle

Lessen the drag

Raise the white flag

Shackles, shackles

Molded from stone

Shackles, shackles

Direct me home

The shackles that bind us can set us free

The shackles that bind us can set us free
