Great Illusions

Great Illusions

A Poem by John B. Bolling

One last sunset
One final day
One last regret
One final stay
The sun soothes as it burns
It moves but it never discerns
The direction to take
The next move to make

One final morning
One last promise
One final warning
One more to miss
Fading Sun colors the evening sky
Its glow dissipates into the night

Now darkness limits my view
It hides all that may lie ahead
Like a puzzle I could never undo
I remember the last thing she said

Happiness is a delusion
It can be yours if you imagine
But even great illusions
Need a basis in reality to begin
