Lonesome Hearts Unite

Lonesome Hearts Unite

A Poem by John B. Bolling

May deep waters carry you home,
May the heavens surround you in the moon's crescent gaze.
Let not tumultuous seas burden you,
Nor permit shooting stars set your vessel into a fiery blaze.
Always remember the pleasant breeze,
It came in the summer to relieve you from the humid haze.
The hand that wiped the sweat from your brow,
The gentle touch of grace and the compassion displayed.
Its compassion kept you from swealtering,
Its firm grip kept you from falling into the grave.

Lonesome hearts unite and weep,
For another of us has disappeared into the deep,
The deepest, most serene of ocean, like a blanket beneath which a child would sleep.

May good intentions light the path,
May only kind hearts greet you along the narrow way.
Let not the vagaries of some confuse,
Nor permit the clouds to obscure this sunlit day.
Always recall the path you have chosen,
For it has many times kept you from wandering astray.
The trail blazed by infinite prudence,
Illuminated when dark to keep the teething wolves at bay.

Lonesome hearts unite in sorrow,
For another of us has found the path to follow,
To lead him on his journey home,
Beside clear waters with a bottom sure and shallow.

May the storm never catch you,
May the devil never harm you,
For it is our will that makes us believe.
Take hold in all that is right and true,
Like a blanket wrap it around you,
For truth is all that you will ever need.
