Drifting off to Dream

Drifting off to Dream

A Poem by John B. Bolling

Stars hide in clouds as I drift off to dream

These days nothing is ever as it seems

Entwined with another but still alone

Happiness will never be mine to own

I may watch it stream across the night sky

See it twinkle inside a lover’s eye

Like time it will vanish without a trace

A vaporized tear in need of a face

Leave me empty, barren, and forgotten

Like the one heart that I could never win

Drift into a state of flashing neurons

Even there happiness has already gone

Stars succumb to the rising winter sun

These days even the stars become undone

Gravity is defined by where I stand

Love is defined by a brilliant gold band

That leaves a mark after many years of use

Only to disappear with no excuse

Blank white pages and an empty bed

There are no words left to be said

Leave me broken, beaten, and defeated

Plenty of signs that I never heeded

Now drifting to a shore without a beach

Even there happiness is beyond my reach

Dear Brendan!
The loss of a loved through divorce, separation, or death is such a painful experience to have to endure!
The pathos in your write is gracefully expressed!........a vaporized tear in need of a face...beautiful!
Do any of use really see all of the signs? I don't think so.
Your description of all is quite touching!
Sheila
