Lullabye

Lullabye

A Poem by John B. Bolling

When the day is done

When the morning comes

When the moon falls onto itself

Leaving no light in the sky

When the time is right

When the sky turns to night

When the sun disappears from view

Hiding the tears in your eyes

You can look inside yourself

Try and find your soul

It might be buried inside of memories

That you have forgotten or sold

Or you can look into her eyes

Find what is hidden inside

It might be the thing that others won’t find

Until the day they die

Whatever your sleep shall bring

Forget not a thing

Even if nightmares surround you remember

That tomorrow you will sing

So keep her close to your heart

Keep her nice and warm

Like an angel she will rise from the ashes

And keep you from falling apart

Cherish the moments you have

Whether happy or sad

Tomorrow will go on without you

With no regrets to be had

Now the day is done

No more errands to run

Any hope of an eternal sunset

Drifted off with the sun

So go to sleep my darling

Rest your weary eyes

No time for second guessing

Or some long goodbye

Go to sleep my darling

Rest your weary head

Dream the sweetest of dreams

I’ll keep my nightmares instead
