No Failure

No Failure

A Poem by John B. Bolling

Thoughts of mortality reverberate within

A cacophony of tumultuous hymns

Prey upon me like vultures in the desert

My soul dehydrated, my mind subverted

Tomorrow beckons like a hopeless mirage

Demons bombard me in an endless barrage

In times of crisis I plan my escape

Pathways constricted but my mouth’s agape

Hopeless I stand against the demons within

Tomorrow offers no hope that I will ever win

I have perfected nothing except my insanity

The only identifiable feature left in me

Perhaps tomorrow could be different than today

But tomorrow may never see the light of day

Millions of souls suffer on the outside

Mine is relegated to the confines of my mind

Desperately I try to stay on the rails

The wind barbaric and my arms flail

Hope is a wall I have no ability to scale

Let it fall on me; in death one cannot fail
