For Now or Forever

For Now or Forever

A Poem by John B. Bolling

With every day comes another thought

Another chance to end this charade

Fake smiles and false pretenses

All disguises hiding the truth within

I never was good at courage

Cowering suited me best

But now all I want is to die

So I close my eyes and go to rest

If I wake, the so be it

It won’t be anything new

If my eyes never opened again

There is nothing I would miss

This pain is just too great

These thoughts too strong

It’s dark and getting late

For now, or forever, so long
