A Night Alone in the Desert

A Night Alone in the Desert

A Poem by Brett Michael Wagner
"

I wrote this about my first night in Phoenix, AZ.

"

I climbed a lonely rock to see
The fading fire die in the West
My company: a twisting tree
And a Bible held to my chest

Dark soon took hold, and the city
Flickered on and lit up the night
A plain of lights stretched before me
To the silhoutted mountain heights

Overhead, the sky was a tent
And I gazed at the desert stars
In the vast milky firmament
Above which God didn’t seem so far

I relaxed and reminisced till
Sleep took hold and I drifted away
In the morning I awoke to
The foggy facade of a new day

Love this, so deep and full of such meaning. I can see you at night, alone under the stars with only God to keep you safe.
