Become a Best Selling AuthorA Chapter by Author Brenda WintersBecoming a best selling author is not very difficult if you know how. When I was fifteen years old (and that was so long ago, I can hardly remember it), I wrote my first short book. It as about the Lindberg kidnapping case and how American laws on kidnapping came about. Crediting great teachers, they encouraged me over and over again even when I was disappointed in myself. My two cousins, Suzanne Shelton Buckley and Sharon Shelton Colangelo hold their PhD's in journalism and English an somehow I felt I should follow in their footsteps. When is was not fashionable to do so, I earned a four year degree at a major University and it only took me five years to do so. After some soul searching and asking myself why I had such a great desire to become a book author, I discovered it is what I love. I take notes in long hand and write on my laptop computer. My fiancé Michael hold a masters degree and has encouraged me to develop my skill. At this time, he has bleeding inside both of his eyes and may go blind. Listening to what Hemmingway and other famous authors had to say, the best advise I can give aspiring writers is do it every day. I think it is wrong to hire a ghost writer because you are presenting yourself in your work and it is not you if you choose to do this. Write at least 100 pages before you publish. Ignore negative review from competitors and rewrite better material from the negative ones. Take classes from great teachers and make friends with other authors. Promote your books. My daughter Emilie Mignon has several books out and was a journalist and her books are selling well in the UK. I have sold many books in the few years I have been published and recently I started doing erotica fiction. Most of my material is based on true stories or my life. Working in a jail and prison and as a Nurse gave me many interesting slants on life. Be encouraged to write as it is a gift. I am so thankful for self publishing companies. I appreciate all of my readers. Thank you.
