In their Eyes

In their Eyes

A Poem by Brenda Alicia
"

In their eyes, I often find my own thoughts. One's I have had to suppress and push to one side.

"

Why do my thoughts embed themselves into the words of others?

Why do my thoughts project themselves into the eyes of the ones around me?

So, when my gaze meets theirs, I’m reminded of all my suppressed thoughts-

You see,  I’ve pushed them so far down because I’ve deemed them inappropriate, on behalf of moralities passed down to me:

Don’t Judge

Don’t Stare

Don’t Assume

Don’t Linger

And don’t peruse into things that don’t pertain to you

But the thoughts that I’ve pushed to one side, resurface when someone just tries to say hello

Or with their attempt at an earnest goodbye-

I always manage to strip them of their sincerity because of my troubled mind

When will I realize their words aren’t mine?

But somehow, I find reminders of my past, disguised in their eyes.

Author's Note

Brenda Alicia
I started a new job. And I am having a hard time dealing with silence. Where I try to suppress negative thoughts. But they always resurface the second someone approaches me. This is how I feel and I am trying to change that.

Writing out my feelings has helped me feel better.. just a quick little jot...
