The Forbidden Love

The Forbidden Love

A Poem by Brianna Woodward

All quiet in the night,

Sneaking away past goodnights.

See his glowing eyes a bright.

For love, for love, for love…

Night’s shadows closing in,

Searching for my heart akin.

See his sweetly softly grin.

For love, for love, for love...

Empty court where I stand,

Barren but still oh so grand.

Hold his warm adoring hand.

For love, for love, for love…

Hush broken by a blade,

Cross the square we run afraid.

Hate of him fuels their crusade.

For love, for love, for love…

Hiding from the swords gleam,

Back away from the moonbeams.

Spotted by an eye so keen.

For love, for love, for love…

Deaf are they to my pleas,

As I kneel upon my knees.

Raise a sword of no pity.

For love, for love, for love…

I lay upon the ground,

I’m the princess to be crowned.

My cheek his lips have found.

For love, for love, for love…

Let him die I did not,

Blocked the blow, took his spot.

My last heartbeats his heart caught.

For love…For love…For love…

I normally don't like rhyming poetry but this is certainly an exception. The rhymes were so eloquent and the repetition of "For love, for love, for love" was beautiful and I liked the medieval imagery of princesses, swords, etc. This was just lovely. Very well done.
