Pathfinders Character BackgroundA Story by breeJust a bit of my character's background for Pathfinders 2e. It's not fully done. Reason for publishing an unfinished work is so that I can share what I have done so far with my DM and friends.Pathfinders Character Background Name: Mynko Age: 28 Wizard/Inventor Race: Catfolk Heritage: Sharp Eared Cat Folk Ancestry: Cat’s Luck Early Life: Born in the city of Absalom, in the Foreign Quarter. It was a difficult birth; the Mother lost a large amount of blood, which resulted in death. Mynko was born an albino with fur white as snow. He has a birthmark on the right arm, just below the elbow. The birthmark consists of a bald spot, with skin in the shape of an oval and the colour black. Family: Mynko’s Mother died during childbirth. Although Mynko never got to know her, she was always talked about. He came to know her through the stories his Brother would tell him. He got to know that his Mother was very kind, but yet feisty. She also had a sense of humour, something that died with her. After her passing, their father Zynke, who is a wizard, more often than not, locked himself in his room studying spells. He was full of sorrow, and the only thing that kept him going was his spellbooks. He loved learning new things, and since he was a Wizard, that’s all he did behind his locked door. He started coming out more when Mynko was 5 years old. He wanted to get to know his son. He wanted to teach his son all the spells he learned. But he came to know that Mynko had taken an interest in inventions. On the other hand, he also wasn’t comfortable with teaching his son before his 11th birthday. So until then, his door always remained locked. Mynko’s interest in Wizardom started as curiosity. Because his Father was always in his room, Mynko was curious about the man behind the door. At an early age, he would peek into his Father’s room through the keyhole and would see his Father on his bed reading, with many books spread out in front of him. At the time, he didn’t know what his Father was doing. He was so curious that he was found trying to get into his Father’s room on a number of occasions. As he grew up, he learned that the man behind the door was his Father. Rynky is Mynko’s older brother who is 12 years older than him. Rynky and Mynko were very close because of the fact that for the first 11 years of his life, Rynky had raised him. They shared a very special bond. It wasn’t until Mynko turned 7 that Rynky felt that Mynko was old enough to understand the man behind the door. Rynky is an inventor and there is this old barn that he would spend a lot of his time at, building these badass inventions. This included armour, weapons, trinkets, machinery, you name it, he built it. On Mynko’s 4th birthday, Rynky gave him a little trinket that he built. It wasn’t anything big, or fancy. But it was cool and shiny, and consisted of several different shapes. It was made of metal parts that you’d find in a junkyard or in an alley way or on the side of the road. This trinket is small enough that would fit inside an average human’s palm. It had these small cool buttons that did nothing, and gears that moved but for no purpose. Some called it a fidget toy, but Mynko called it Trinky. Mynko had so much interest and love for this gift that he started hanging out with Rynky at the barn. He would play with these little trinkets that his brother would make for him. Rynky even helped him build some trinkets of his own. Each time, each year, they built something bigger. When he was 7 years old he had an idea. He wanted a companion, but not just any ordinary pet. He wanted to build his own! By the time he turned 10 years old, he had built this small construct, who he named Gogru. Its ears were wide and pointy that stuck straight out of the side of its head (Basically my construct is a mechanical version of Grogu from Star Wars). This construct at first was small. And every year he worked on improving his construct by making it bigger, adding more gears and metal parts to it. On his 11th birthday, his Father gifted him his very first spellbook. This is when his Father explained to him what all those books he saw were. He explained both the good and evil of spellcasting. He explained how it could hurt and destroy, but also how it can aid those in a time of crisis. The spellbook only consisted of a few spells. But gradually over time, as he learned the spells and practised them, his Father would add more to his spellbook. During this time, Mynko and his Father grew close. They got to know each other more and more. Even though Zynke was his Father, their bond wasn’t as strong as Mynko and Rynky’s. Every year on Mynko’s birthday, his Father laid out 3 spells in front of Mynko. He was to choose only one spell, and attached to this gift, there was one condition. Those spells that he chose every year on his birthday are to only be used once learned and ready to use them (so basically as he levels up). These spells were added to the back of his spell book. Now, this spellbook wasn’t just something you would buy from the store. It’s very sentimental. It was a gift that grew in time, and that was given in love. (in the real world, outside of Pathfinders, you would call this DIY). Both Trinky and Gogru are always with Mynko. Wherever Mynko went, so did they. © 2022 bree |
