Deep Talk Part 4

Deep Talk Part 4

A Story by bree

I am going to add a series of questions i have gotten online along with my answers. this is a challenge for me because i am going to be completely honest with my answers.

What is a primary fear that is holding you back?

The fear of being successful and achieving the goals I have right now. I fear that once I succeed I will feel like I'm being controlled. Instead of not achieving and just doing what ever I want and socializing with people whenever I want to, I will be writing only what my boss tells me to write, or talking to who i am told to talk to. Being told when to work. Being told when I can sleep. Having my life written out for me without my say and doing exactly what life decides to put on my f*****g calendar. Achieving means being a robot in society. Not achieving and hiding from society is something I rather, even though i know I will end up feeling so alone and miserable. I am also afraid of achieving because I fear if I achieve i will end up feeling so isolated and depressed. So I feel like my fear is really choosing whether I want to be alone and miserable or be isolated and depressed. That is my fear.

Oh, Sugar, where do I start?

First, kudos for committing to the honesty...and following through. While it's never been difficult for me (and there are many who wish it was!), I do understand the fear of "puttin' it out there".

Second, what movies/shows/books have led you to believe that "success" equals slavery? Child, if you achieve your goals and those goals involve success that might include recognition or notoriety...honey--YOU MAKE THE RULES. Of course, you contract your services/skills/talents to someone if you don't own/freelance your own enterprise, but, serious talent is appreciated by more than monetary compensation: your contract binds you to agreed performance standards/quotas, but you can dictate the how/when/where that happens. Autonomy is not a good idea for many people--they need structure and guidelines provided by someone in authority. Myself? I perform, nay...I excel when left to my own devices and was lucky enough to work for someone who recognized my skills and my personal high standard of dependability, and only received direction when normal procedures would not accomplish what would fulfill his contract or deadlines not apparent in any of the materials/files/paperwork I had. My last 13 years of employment (with anyone - I retired in January) was this perfect job that I never knew I had been looking for all my employable years.

Make AUTONOMY a part of your goals if you feel that you might chafe under tight scrutiny or supervision.

Good Luck on your path and take control of how your success plays out.
