rope... hope?

I held onto hope like it was a rope

woven together by dreams and promises

it burned from my clenched fists

i gave too much effort and tried too hard

for far too long

i was stuck in a game of tug of war with myself

you didn't deserve the effort

and i didn't deserve the scars it left behind

the rope wore thin

and i held on to floss

floss woven by broken promises

it tore 

just like my hope for you
