Safety Net

Safety Net

A Poem by breakthebrokenone

I start my mornings the same way
rolling over to see that you are here
and that I am safe
knowing that nothing can touch me
because your arms are the safety net
which sits over the cliff
and saves me when it all becomes too much
and I jump
hoping to leave this world
hoping to search the abyss
longing to venture out and become something more
something bigger than who I am
and I am so grateful
to have that safety net
which saves me every time
but I cannot be assured
that it will always be there.

The last two lines are revelatory. The speaker has become dependent on the lover, but knows in the back of her mind that hd/she will not always be there. When I first read the part about jumping and leaving the world, I thought it was in the figurative sense. Now I'm not so sure. I think depression/ anxiety may be present here.
