A Poem by Brenda Woods
"

500 prompt challenge - #3

"
don't get too close to him, little bird
they say he likes to cage pretty girls
it's the only way to make them stay
clip their wings so they can't fly away

oh, he'll keep you a while
until those feathers don't shine
and you lose that sweet little smile
drained of all life

don't get too close to him, little bird
they say that his world is made of hurt
to be like him, the only way to survive
perhaps, little bird, you'll make it out alive

oh, he'll keep you a while
until those feathers don't shine
and you lose that sweet little smile
drained of all life

i saw a bird today
weary of attempts to fly away
i watched her fall to the ground
she hardly made any sound

oh, he'll keep you a while
until those feathers don't shine
and you lose that sweet little smile
drained of all life

don't get too close to him, little bird
don't say i didn't warn you
about all the things he will do
