Temptress

Temptress

A Poem by Brenda Woods
"

Of the sort of women who are dangerous, who love you as easily as they consume you.

"
you are sweet seduction
lipsticked lips, gentle fingers
the type of woman men lust for
i crave your touch, your scent
long for your hunger, possession

you are cursed temptation
nails as sharp as you are dangerous
the type of woman i should not love
heart steeled, locked behind iron bars
of another man's desire and icy grasp

you are kind captivity
made of loving words, sweet kisses
the type of woman to capture hearts
your hands in my hair are gentle
the grip on my soul you have is not

take my heart;
i'm already yours

I am normally a rhyme centered poet, but I do like and admire well written free verse. I'm not especially good at any form of poetry, but free verse is something I just can't seem to do at all. (tho' I keep trying off and on. My experience is that women seem to have the handle on this genre and you affirm that. Great write Brenda!

Thank you, David - I'm glad you enjoyed it! (And I must admit I'm pretty shocking at rhyming, haha)

Your fierce fire came recommended to me. There is such a devouring hunger that thrives in your words. Magnificent. xo

A amazing poem. I believe take two to tangle. Temptation needs a pardner. I like the description. Sweet and beautiful words leading man to dangerous waters. Thank you Brenda for sharing the outstanding poetry.

You are welcome.
I like free verse as it allows for so much in the way of descriptive interpretations not allowed in other poetic
forms. I know what it takes to tempt me and it isn't found under the guise of a painted lady. I can be had easy enough but, I can't be bought with warpaint and come-hither glances. I like the poem. Can you tell me what I look for in a woman first?

That's what draws me into free verse most of the time, too. And fair enough, each to their own - I'm.. read more

I am a Face man. I can get lost in a woman's face especially cheekbones!
Oddly enough, this woman may not be the femme fatal most would think. She is more subtle than that, I think. Her soft sweetness captures the attention of both men and women her kind nature keeps people mesmerized and coming back. But she's not a pushover; she has a core of steel.
Great discriptive, free verse write. Nadia must be a fan, as she left read requests with several friends.

Definitely! And I entered this in a contest of Nadia's :) Thank you for the review!
It is interesting that the typical temptress always has their own Kryptonite in the form an unrequited love - perhaps thats why they play with hearts through anger/frustration at not being able to get the one they feel they need, not want.
Then again some people just like to play games and the collateral damage is of no concern.
Great write Brenda.

Ooo, interesting thoughts! Thanks for your review!
these are my favorite types of writes: free from distraction... i have known these temptresses... there is a familiarity in this write... there are those who we know we should absolutely avoid but fall in love with all the same...

Your formatting is just fine and your writing in this piece is top notch. Thank you to Nadia G. for sending me this to review. This is written as if a man is describing the kind of woman who can accurately be termed predatorial. The first three stanzas describes the methods by which she ensnared her prey...then after all the things to stay away from are listed he admits he is already within her grasp. Just a sensational bit of writing, my compliments. take care...dan
