Street WalkerA Poem by BrandonA free verse poem about the hardships of a single mother. She walked the street in red Clad in her best jewelry and satin Awaiting her next bid Her next highest offer She was alone In the dark And nothing but the bleak night And them Were there for her She sits On the street side bench On her dinner break Life was hard She knew it She preached it The kids were at home Sitting with the baby sitter Some teenager with a boyfriend Crammed in the cramped apartment With nothing But empty hopes and dreams Only she knew how important this was The kids had to be fed The bills had to be paid Mind over matter Substance over dignity It was alright After all it was only temporary
